The climate crisis threatens modern society, and action to combat it remains a global priority. Global surface temperatures in 2001-2020 was 0.99°C (33° F) higher than in 1850-1900, contributing to widespread changes in the climate and more frequent weather extremes (Climate Change 2021 Report, recently released by the IPCC).

The report highlights the irreversible consequences of human influence on global ecosystems. According to the report, human influence since the 1950s is a likely driver of more frequent and extreme climate events. Such events have already severely impacted public health, prosperity, and economic stability.
