Abstract

El Códice de Huichapan es un manuscrito histórico del periodo Novohispano Temprano que emplea el sistema de escritura pictórica del Centro de México, junto con textos alfabéticos en otomí, así como algunas glosas aisladas en náhuatl. Estas características permiten poner a prueba la hipótesis de que la mayor parte de los grafemas pictóricos centromexicanos podían ser leídos en varias lenguas por su carácter semasiográfico, mientras algunos signos eran glotogramas que expresan estructuras lingüísticas en un idioma determinado.

Le Codex de Huichapan est un manuscrit historique de la période novo-hispanique haute qui emploie le système d'écriture pictographique du centre du Mexique, avec des textes alphabétiques en otomi, ainsi que quelques gloses isolées en nahuatl. Ces caractéristiques permettent de mettre à l'épreuve l'hypothèse selon laquelle la plus grande part des graphèmes pictographiques centraméricains pouvaient être lus en plusieurs langues, de part leur caractère sémasiographique, alors que d'autres signes étaient des glotogrammes, exprimant par là des structures linguistiques dans une langue déterminée.

Translated abstract

The Huichapan Codex is a historical manuscript from the Early Period of New Spain. It employed the system of pictorial writing known from central Mexico, with alphabetic texts in Otomí and isolated glosses in Nahuatl, features that allow us to test the hypothesis that due to their semasiographic character most of the pictorial graphemes from central Mexico can be read in various languages, while some signs were glottograms that expressed linguistic structures in a given language.
