Abstract

Resumo No ensaio, examina-se alguma prosa de Machado de Assis, objetivando-se discutir sua filiação a diversos autores situados entre a Antiguidade e a era Moderna, como Aristóteles, Cícero, Luciano de Samósata e Fernão Mendes Pinto. Para além de restituir os intertextos, procede-se à análise e interpretação dialógica dessas obras, com o fim de sugerir a aplicação de preceitos retóricos na composição de narradores e personagens dotados de competência oratória.

Abstract In this essay, we examine Machado de Assis's prose, with the aim to discuss his affiliation with various authors located between Antiquity and the Modern era, such as Aristotle, Cicero, Lucian, and Fernão Mendes Pinto. In addition to restoring the intertexts, we intend to make a dialogical analysis and interpretation of these works, suggesting the application of rhetorical precepts in the composition of narrators and characters endowed with oratory competence.
