Aims and Scope

Journal of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (JHRS) (eISSN 2820-5480) is a multidisciplinary peer reviewed, international, electronic journal edited by the Alma Mater Europaea University - ECM from Slovenia. The following articles will be considered for publication: original and review articles, short report, letters to the editor, clinical experiences, survey of cases, doctoral dissertations, master of arts, editorials, rapid communications and other contributions from all the fields of health sciences, rehabilitation sciences, disability studies, special education, psychology, social policy, and other related sciences. The aim of the journal is to share and disseminate knowledge between all disciplines that work in the field of developmental diversities. All articles will be critically reviewed by at least two unknown reviewers within 2 months, but longer delays are sometimes unavoidable. All manuscripts must comply with Authors Instructions. There are around 20 articles published per year. JHRS allows free access (Open Access) to its contents and permits authors to self-archive final accepted version of the articles on any OAI-compliant institutional / subject-based repository. Journal of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is devoted to the scientific study of disability. The subject matter is broad and includes, but is not restricted to, findings from psychological, biological, educational, genetic, medical, psychiatric, and sociological studies, ethical, philosophical, and legal contributions that increase knowledge on the prevention and treatment of disability, and/or inform public policy and practice.

Prof. Dr. Vladimir Trajkovski is born in Skopje, Macedonia in 1968. He is Editor-in-chief of the Journal of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje (1994), where he later obtained his M.Sc. (1999). He obtained PhD degrees in 2002 on the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje. He works as president of Macedonian Scientific Society for Autism since 2005. He introduced subject Autism in the postgraduate curricula at the Faculty of Philosophy. His research interest are genetic and physiological aspects of autism spectrum disorders, but he has also published in the fields of human genetics and medical aspects of disability. He was former editor of the Journal of Special Education and Rehabilitation in the period (2008-2017), and Journal for ReAttach Therapy and Developmental Diversities (2018-2022). He became head of educational-scientific board of postgraduate studies at Institute of Special Education and Rehabilitation from October 2009 until September 2013. He is an active member of the Autism Europe, member of the European Association of Service Providers for People with disabilities, member of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual Disabilities. He is member of editorial board of five international journals. He takes a part in 21 international projects and attends on more than 100 conferences and seminars. He has more than 110 articles published in domestic and international journals and 6 handbooks and 3 manuals and brochures.

Assoc. Prof. dr. Sebastjan Kristovič is a professor in various study programs and Vice-rector for the study process at Alma Mater Europaea. He is the director of the International Institute of Psychotherapy and Applied Psychology (Counseling and Therapy Center for families, couples and individuals) and a researcher in the fields of logotherapy, existential analysis, mental health and education. He is the author of three scientific monographs and has over 330 bibliographic hits. PhD is from the field of logotherapy/existential analysis on the interdisciplinary doctoral study program. It works in education, curative and prevention in the form of lectures, seminars and counseling. For many years, he has been leading and implementing creative and experiential camps for children and youth people. He also leads lectures and seminars for various work groups in the field of mental health, relationships, conflict resolution and transparent communication. Dr. Kristovič has been working with parents, teachers and educators for many years in the form of individual discussions, lectures, seminars and counseling.He regularly participates in various international symposia and international scientific conferences, as well as in various radio and television programs. He is the head of the research program Holistic educational process and strengthening of mental health (Slovenian Research Agency). It is a three-year project in the field of education and mental health. The goal of the project is to develop an integral/holistic paradigm of the educational process. He also participates in many other projects and is permanently active in scientific research. Dr. Kristovič is also a member of the Council of the Slovenian Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (SQAA).

Manuel Casanova, MD – Member of Editorial Board

Dr. Manuel Casanova made his residency training in neurology and then spent 3 years doing a fellowship in neuropathology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. During his stay at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Casanova was in-charge of Pediatric Neuropathology, a fact which kindled his interest in developmental disorders of the brain. His clinical experience was enhanced by appointments as either a consultant or staff neuropathologist at Sinai Hospital (Maryland), the North Charles Hospital and the D.C. General Hospital. He spent several years as Deputy Medical Examiner for Washington, D.C., where he gained valuable experience in the post-mortem examination of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and child abuse. His expertise in the field was recognized by honorary appointments as a Scientific Expert for the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and as a Professorial Lecturer for the Department of Forensic Science at George Washington University. Dr. Casanova spent 8 years helping to establish 2 of the most successful brain banks in this country: The Johns Hopkins Brain Resource Center (3 years) and the Brain Bank Unit of the Clinical Brains Disorders Branch at the National Institutes of Mental Health (5 years). Dr. Casanova is the recipient of the Presidential Award of the American Medical Association, National Research Service Award by US Public Health Service, a Stanley Scholar, Senior Scientist Award (Winter Workshop in Schizophrenia), an honorary Doctor’s degree, Honorary Visiting Professorship, and Contributing Piece Award by Families for Effective Autism Treatment. He also serves in numerous Scientific Advisory Boards and as editor for over a dozen journals. At present he is the SmartState Chair for Childhood Neurotherapeutics at the University of South Carolina.

Mohammad Ghaziuddin, MD, PhD – Member of Editorial Board

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ghaziuddin was born and raised in Hyderabad, India. After graduating from Osmania University, Hyderabad, in 1980, he obtained higher training in psychiatry in London where he obtained his membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych 1986). Subsequently, he moved to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, where he trained in child psychiatry and obtained research experience in autism and developmental disorders. Except for visiting professorships and academic visits, he has spent his professional life in the US at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he is a full professor in Psychiatry. He is a Diplomate of the American Boards of Psychiatry, Neurology and Child/Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr Ghaziuddin describes himself as a clinician, a researcher and an educator. His main areas of research and clinical interests include the phenomenology, classification and the comorbidity of autism spectrum disorders. He was among the first to systematically study the distinction between autism and Asperger syndrome, and also explore the psychiatric comorbidity of autism spectrum disorders. His book on the Mental Health Aspects of Autism and Asperger Syndrome, published in 2005, was the first book on this topic. He is also a dedicated teacher, who has taught and mentored trainees in psychiatry, both in the US and overseas. Author of about 100 publications, including peer-reviewed research articles, book chapters and books, he has traveled and lectured widely. He is a member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and has served on the editorial boards of several prestigious journals, and advised governmental agencies about child mental health with particular reference to autism.
 

Mehmet Tevfik DORAK, MD PhD – Member of editorial board

Mehmet Tevfik Dorak is a professor and Head of School of Life Sciences, Pharmacy & Chemistry at Kingston University London, U.K. He has been in a number of academic roles in his homeland Turkey where he was trained in medicine, followed by USA and UK universities as well as an industry role in a private research institute in USA. His teaching covers a wide range of disciplines including environmental health, biomedical science, genetics, epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics and academic skills. Dr Dorak’s research is mainly on human genetics and disease susceptibility, and more recently, his statistical expertise helps him to contribute to clinical research of his colleagues. He has been a Head of School in two different UK universities over the past nine years. Despite being in a primarily administrative role, he continues to be involved in teaching, research and training courses in UK and elsewhere. Dr Dorak has published three books, one as an editor, one as a co-editor and one as a single author, a dozen book chapters, and contributed around 80 peer-reviewed papers to international literature. The website he has maintained since 1998 has been a useful resource for students and he continues to develop it further. He is currently a statistical advisor to Frontiers journals and editorial board member of several international journals.

Professor Wells qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 1988 and worked in London based mental health clinical services before transitioning to an academic career- first at the Maudsley School of Nursing and then at the Department of Nursing, King’s College London. He then moved to Ireland in 1998. He is Dean of the School of Health Sciences at South East Technological University, Ireland. His primary research interests lie in workplace wellbeing, addictions and conflict impacts on health services, both staff and vulnerable populations. Professor Wells is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing; a Fellow Ad Eundem of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and a Marie Skladowska-Curie Senior International Fellow. He holds Visiting Professorial appointments University College Dublin, King's College London, UK and the University of Maribor, Slovenia. He is affiliate faculty at the Golisano Institute for Intellectual and Developmental Disability Nursing at St John Fisher College, Rochester, NYS. He has served on various Irish national advisory committees in the health and nursing arena, including as a board member of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland; the undergraduate review of nurse education; the national research strategy for nursing and the national advisory panel on drugs (training subcommittee). He sits on The National Research Ethics Committee of Ireland for clinical trials and is an executive committee member of The Institute of Industrial Engineers and Safety Management Systems, with special responsibility to advise on Decent work and employee wellbeing.

Professor Emeritus Trevor R. Parmenter held the Foundation Chair of Developmental Disability Studies (CDDS) in the Sydney Medical School, University of Sydney. He is Honorary Professor in the Faculties of Education and Social Work and Health Sciences at the University of Sydney; and Adjunct Professor in the School of Rural Medicine, University of New England. He held the conjoint position of the Director of the Centre for Disability Studies at the Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney.  Former positions include Professorial Fellow and Director of the Unit for Community Integration Studies at Macquarie University; prior to which he held teaching and administrative positions in the New South Wales Department of Education and Training.He is a Past President of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD) and former ex-officio member of the Board of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disability (AAIDD). He has worked closely with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO). In 2005 he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for his contributions to research, teaching and services to people with developmental disabilities. He has published widely on disability issues including employment, supported living, classification of support needs, behaviour support, mental and physical health, quality of life, autism, family studies, ageing, policy development and program evaluation. In 2010 The Senate of the University of Sydney conferred on him the title of Professor Emeritus in recognition of his distinguished research and teaching career.He has led several research and evaluation studies related to the health of people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. He has been a chief investigator on several large Australian Research Council (ARC) and National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) research grants. During his academic career he has been the supervisor of over 50 successful PhD, Masters and honours candidates.

Matthew P. Janicki, Ph.D. is the co-president of the US National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices, as well as a research associate professor in the Department of Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is also a member of the US federal NAPA Advisory Council on Alzheimer’s Research, Care, and Services. Previously, he served as director for technical assistance for the former Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Developmental Disabilities and Health at the University, was director for aging and special populations for the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, and spent a year as a Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation's Public Policy Leadership Fellow at the US National Institute on Aging and the United States Senate. He was the principal investigator of several nationally-funded studies that examined how community agencies provide community supports to adults with intellectual disabilities affected by Alzheimer’s disease and how families are aided by community agencies in supporting adults with Down syndrome affected by Alzheimer’s disease, and was also the project director of a NIH-funded effort that provided the World Health Organization with a series of background reports on promoting longevity among adults with intellectual disabilities throughout the world. Currently, he is leading a longitudinal study of specialized group homes designed for dementia-related care of adults with intellectual disability, including Down syndrome. He was the founding editor of the Journal of Policy and Practice in Intellectual Disabilities. He is also the editor of numerous books and author of articles on aging, dementia, public policy, and rehabilitation concerning adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (including Dementia, Aging, and Intellectual Disabilities: A Handbook).

Dr Jane McCarthy is Medical Lead & Consultant Psychiatrist for the Intellectual Disability Service and Associate Medical Director at Sussex Partnership National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust, England, UK. She is Honorary Associate Professor in Psychological Medicine, University of Auckland, New Zealand, Visiting Senior Lecturer at the Department of Forensic & Neurodevelopmental Sciences, King’s College London and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Brighton & Sussex Medical School, UK. Dr McCarthy has over 25 years of experience as a Senior Psychiatrist working with people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorders presenting across secure and forensic services including inpatient services, prisons, courts and community based services. She has over a 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and books and has been an editor of six textbooks including co-editor of ‘A Clinician's Guide to Mental Health Conditions in Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders’. Dr McCarthy was founding editor of a journal established in 2015 up to 2021 titled ‘Advances in Autism: International outcomes in education, health and care’. Dr McCarthy was Clinical Advisor on Adults with Autism for the Department of Health, England and developed the first national strategy for adults with autism.

Roy Brown is a psychologist who has practiced and carried out research in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities. He has worked in agencies and universities in the UK, Canada, and Australia. Currently Professor Emeritus at Flinders University, Australia and also University of Calgary, he also holds, an Adjunct appointment at University of Victoria, BC, Canada. His research and practice have resulted in a range of books, chapters, and articles. In recent years his major publications relate to quality of life and family quality of life across the lifespan. He has co- chaired the Quality-of-life Special Interest Research Group of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IASSIDD. He took on the role of Founding Director of the IASSIDD’s Academy that provides workshops in various countries, particularly in the poorer economic areas of the world. He continues to consult with a variety of organizations in Canada, Australasia, and Europe. He has been awarded the Order of the University of Calgary for his services to “the University and Canada, nationally and internationally”. He received the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Gent for scientific contributions to Disability Studies, and more recently The Dr. Robert E. Cooke Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry. As a professor Emeritus he continues in various advisory roles including consulting, lecturing online, and supporting international students.

Marvin Natowicz, MD, PhD – Member of editorial board

Prof. Marvin Natowicz, MD, PhD is a medical geneticist and clinical pathologist at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Natowicz received both his medical degree and a doctorate in cellular and developmental biology at Washington University, St. Louis. He subsequently completed training in both clinical pathology and in medical genetics at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, respectively. As a clinical pathologist, he directs several clinical laboratories, including the biochemical genetics laboratory, at the Cleveland Clinic. As a medical geneticist, he cares for children and adults with developmental disabilities, often due to genetic or metabolic causes. He has ongoing research activities studying the pathobiology of autism, on the clinical chemistry of genetic metabolic disorders, and in studying some as yet undiagnosed, rare disorders. Dr. Natowicz also has a research program that involves efforts to understand the pathobiology of autism. He also works on developing new clinical laboratory assays for genetic and metabolic disorders and participates in research on public health policy issues relating to the protection of persons with developmental disability.

Senior professor Monica Reichenberg is born in Gothenburg. She obtained her PhD degree in 2000 at the Faculty of Education, The University of Gothenburg, Sweden. She had a position as professor in general didactics from 2010-2017 at the Department of Education and Special Education, University of Gothenburg. She has been a professor in literacy at Umea University and a professor in Education at University West. Her research interest involves reading comprehension and students with intellectual disabilities. In her research, she links reading comprehension to reading strategies and language background for students with and without intellectual disability. She is also interested in how teachers´ and special educators´ attitudes relate to educational predictors. She has been a scientific leader in the Swedish literacy boost for students with intellectual disabilities. She is a member of the editorial board of Reading Matrix. She has been a member of the board of the Swedish Dyslexia Association and Dyslexi – a journal edited by the Swedish Dyslexia Association and Swedish Dyslexia foundation. She is a member of the research committee for Swedish writers of educational books and materials (SLFF). She has published numerous articles in domestic and international journals and several books about reading comprehension. Her most well cited article is: “Developing reading comprehension among students with mild intellectual disabilities: An intervention study” co-authored with professor Ingvar professor Lundberg, published in Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research. She has reviewer assignments for several journals in education, disability and psychology.

Matthias Grünke was born in Erlangen (Germany) in 1969. He received his Masters degree in educational psychology from the University of Erlangen-Nuremburg and his Ph.D. as well as his postdoctoral degree ("Habilitation") in special education from the University of Cologne. Dr. Grünke is a trained behavior therapist and Montessori educator. His research has focused on the efficacy of interventions for students with learning disabilities and related disorders. He is currently a full professor of special education at the University of Cologne. Before his current assignment, he was a full professor at the University of Oldenburg. Dr. Grünke is the vice president of Learning Disabilities Worldwide (LDW) and the chair of the professional advisory board of the same organization. He is a fellow of the International Academy for Research in Learning Disabilities (IARLD) and a member of the Consortium for Empirical Research in Special Education (AESF), the German Association of Colleges and Universities (DHV), the Coincil for Learning Disabilities (CLD), as well as the German Association of Education (DGFE). Together with Dr. Jürgen Wilbert, he edits the German speaking and peer-reviewed journal Empirical Special Education and is the editor of Learning Disabilities: A Contemporary Journal.

Prof. Dr. Robert Orlikoff is the dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences at East Carolina University, serving as the chief academic and administrative officer of a college that offers 25 allied health programs across multiple health and rehabilitation disciplines. Previously, Prof. Orlikoff held administrative, academic, and clinical appointments at West Virginia University, Seton Hall University, Hunter College of the City University of New York, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the University of Memphis, and United Cerebral Palsy. Earning his M.S and Ph.D. degrees at Columbia University, Dr. Orlikoff is an internationally recognized expert in laryngeal physiology as well as speech and voice pathology. Co-author of the texts Clinical Measurement of Speech and Voice and Evaluating Research in Communication Disorders, Dr. Orlikoff has served on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Voice, Logopedics Phoniatrics Vocology, and the Bulgarian Journal of Communication Disorders, as well as Associate Editor of the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research and Phonoscope.
 

Nancy Jokinen, MSW, PhD – Member of Editorial Board

Nancy Jokinen, MSW, PhD is an adjunct professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Northern British Columbia in Canada. As a professor, she taught for 10 years graduate and undergraduate courses and supervised graduate students to complete their degrees. Prior to graduate studies Nancy worked 20+ years in various community support positions with adults with intellectual disabilities and their families.  Following her MSW with a Gerontology Specialization she worked as the manager of a special care unit for people with dementia.  As a social worker, Nancy also worked with adults with long term mental health disorders and older adults in long term care.  She also worked on various research projects concerned with aging in the general population and adults with intellectual disability.   Her doctoral degree from the University of Calgary focused on family quality of life, aging and intellectual disabilities. Nancy has been a member of the National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices (NTG) since its inception.  She is currently on the NTG’s Board of Directors and Chair of the NTG International Committee.  In Canada, she co-leads the NTG-Canadian Consortium on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia. As a part of that, Nancy provides training using a Canadian adaptation of the NTG's national training curriculum (Dementia Capable Care of Adults with Intellectual Disabilities & Dementia).   She is an associate editor for a prominent disability publication, has many peer-reviewed publications (both articles and chapters), and made numerous presentations to national and international audiences.

Blake D. Hansen, PhD, BCBA-D is an associate professor of Counseling Psychology and Special Education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, USA. He is a board certified behavior analyst and teaches courses in research design and applied behavior analysis. His research focuses on effective interventions for individuals with autism and their families. Dr. Lauren Moskowitz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at St. John’s University and a core member of the School Psychology (Psy.D. and M.S.) programs. She earned her B.S. from Cornell University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Stony Brook University under the mentorship of the late Dr. Edward (Ted) Carr, one of the co-founders of Positive Behavior Support (PBS). Dr. Moskowitz completed her clinical internship at NYU Child Study Center and Bellevue Hospital in New York City and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at NYU Child Study Center. Her research focuses on behavioral intervention for anxiety and challenging behavior in children with autism and other developmental disabilities (DD) and integrating family-based PBS with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She has co-authored many papers and book chapters and has presented at numerous international, national, and regional conferences. Dr. Moskowitz has been teaching several undergraduate and graduate courses covering autism and DD, Applied Behavior Analysis, and Positive Behavior Support and mentors School Psychology and Clinical Psychology doctoral students on their dissertations. She has been on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions since 2013, is an ad-hoc reviewer for over 10 peer-reviewed journals, and was Co-Chair of the Autism Spectrum and Developmental Disabilities (ASDD) SIG for the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) from 2016-2018.

Professor Butko D.Y. was born in Saint-Petersburg, Russia in 1966 and has been working at healthcare sphere more than 37 years. 30 of them he dedicated to neuropathology and developing new effective methods of rehabilitation and cure of pain syndromes. At the moment he is a Head of Department of medical rehabilitation and sports medicine at Federal State Budgetary Institution of Higher Education "Saint-Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University" of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation. Graduated S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy with honors in 1989 (retraining course for doctors in neurology). In 2002 got the science rank MD, and has been the professor at the Department since 2005. In the name of Butko D.Y. 4 patents for inventions and 28 innovation proposals are registered, more than 150 scientific works on current issues of medicine, including monographs, reference books, manuals, and tutorials are published. His works and rehabilitation studies under the influence of alternating accelerations formed the basis of a new scientific direction of medicine, which is awarded and quoted in Russian and foreign scientific journals. Professor Ingrida Baranauskienė delves into disability research related to the professional career development of people with disabilities, training of specialists to work with such people and the accessibility of the health care system in general. Doctoral diploma in the field of Education Science (2003); Habilitation procedure (2008); Honorary Professor of the University “Ukraine” (Ukraine) (2012). Expert of the Research Council of Lithuania project “Lituanistika” (expertise of scientific articles). Member of the Lithuanian Educational Research Association, the European Educational Research Association. Expert of the research project INOSOCTEREHI of the NRP of the Republic of Latvia “Innovative solutions for social tele-rehabilitation in the schools of Latvia in the context of inclusive education” (2016). From October 20, 2016, by decision No. 3-3-1 of the Latvian Science Council at the Latvian Academy of Sciences, she was appointed as an expert in the field of education for a maximum period of three years. In recent years, she interned at the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA (14-29 January, 2019), Hong Kong University, China (9-26 November, 2018); Ohio State University, USA (6-21 May, 2018). She shares her experience at the universities of Greece, Bulgaria, Latvia and Kazakhstan. I. Baranauskienė systematically initiates and conducts international and national projects for the research of the aforementioned topics. She has summarized her research in four scientific monographs (three of them with co-authors), over 150 scientific and research publications, is the author of two textbooks for higher schools, co-author of several scientific studies and educational books. The professor is an editor of a scientific journal indexed in the Web of Science™ Core Collection, works on the editorial boards of several journals.

Dobrinka Georgieva is Full Professor in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) at Medical University in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. My scientific career is broadly situated in the field of applied statistics and psychometrics, with specific goals at modeling the psychological processes through computational statistics and also at developing, refining, and extending evaluation methods in the Psychology and Neuropsychology fields. My research agenda is also focused on implementing traditional and innovative models/methods to better understand the relationships among observed and latent variables using state-of-art latent variable methods, including multidimensional and/or multilevel item response theory models, structural equation modeling, and Bayesian statistics. Teaching is an important pillar of my career and I have almost 10-year experience teaching applied statistics and psychometrics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I’m fluent in R, and Mplus, and also I’m a Python user.

Dr. Yasir Ahmed Syed is group leader at Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute, Cardiff University. Dr. Syed did his PhD from MaxPlanck Institute of Experimental Medicine, Germany and postdoctoral research at Welcome Trust-MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, Cambridge UK. Main research focus of his group is to model neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases using human stem models. Complementary research project focuses on mechanisms of CNS regeneration with a particular focus on remyelination, an adult stem cell-mediated process in which new myelin sheaths are restored to demyelinated axons. He has number of publications and patent to his credit, where he has identified extrinsic (environmental) and intrinsic (transcriptional) factors that regulate the glial differentiation during development and disease. He is active member of number of professional societies and has reviewer assignments for several high impact journals and granting bodies (public and charities).

Branislav Brojčin is a full professor at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Special Education and Rehabilitation. He graduated from the Faculty of Special Education and Rehabilitation (1991), where he also earned his master’s degree (2004) and PhD (2007). During his career he worked in several elementary schools specialized for children with disabilities. Since 1998 he has been working at the Faculty of Special Education and Rehabilitation, at different positions from a researcher up to Full Professor (since 2019). He currently holds lectures at undergraduate, master and doctoral studies. Since 2011, he has been engaged in the Social Participation of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities research project, which is financed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. He has also participated in several educational and professional projects. He was a member of the Serbian team for inclusion educational politics at Joint European Union/Council of Europe Project "Regional Support for Inclusive Education in South East Europe" 2014–2015. Branislav Brojcin is a researcher at "Training University Teachers for the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities, TUT4IND" and "Inclusion through social skills for learners with autism and intellectual impairments", a projects financed by EU within the ERASMUS+ framework. Since 1998, he has authored more than 170 publications, including 5 books and 53 peer-reviewed papers (seven indexed on Scopus and/or the ISI Web of Science).

She was doing research at the University of Leiden, Netherlands under EULAR scientific bursary, after which she has accomplished to do her own scientific work about the the diagnostic value of anti-modified citrullinated antibodies in rheumatoid arthritis and their association with the disease activity. Prof. dr. sc. Rea Fulgosi Masnjak was born in Zagreb, Croatia in 1960. She is head and a lecturer at the postgraduate doctoral study “Prevention Science and Disability Study” at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences University of Zagreb. She graduated psychology at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Philosophy, Department of Psychology (1983), where she later obtained her M.Sc. (1989) and PhD (1994) in psychology. She is co-author of the joint graduate course Leisure and Recreation in Rehabilitation, with College of Health and Human Services, Indiana State University. She also teaches at the graduate and undergraduate studies of Educational Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Education, University of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Her research interests are psychological aspects of special needs and disability, but she also published in the fields of special education, early intervention, quality of life, mental health and intellectual disabilities, autism, well being, sensory integration. She published in domestic and international journals, she is author of several handbooks and manuals, actively participated with more than 70 presentations at scientific conferences. She participated in more 20 domestic and international scientific projects. She was vice-president of the 6th European Mental Health Congress in Intellectual Disabilities and chairman of the 8th Scientific Conference Board at the Education and Rehabilitation Faculty Conference and was actively involved in organization and preparation of a number of other scientific and professional conferences, where she held a series of invited lectures.

Associate Professor Haris Memisevic was born in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1977. He obtained his masters degree in psychology at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Tuzla and then a PhD degree in intellectual disabilities from University of Tuzla in 2013. He is an associate professor at the University of Sarajevo, Faculty of Educational Sciences. He teachers subjects related to special education and developmental disabilities. His research interests are in the field of child development and developmental disabilities, in particular intellectual disability. He implemented many projects regarding the development of executive functions in preschool and school children with and without developmental disabilities. Currently, he serves the vice-dean for science and research at the Faculty. He published widely in the area of special education, developmental psychology, and developmental disabilities. He is an associate editor in the journal Perceptual and Motor Skills.

Dr Ruth Moyse is a Director and Associate consultant at AT-Autism and a Visiting Research Fellow with ACoRNS at the University of Southampton. She is a qualified, experienced teacher and now a guest lecturer for the Anna Freud Centre and at several universities in England. She is an Associate Tutor on the Masters Autism programme at the University of Strathclyde and also an experienced mentor, most recently for Scottish Autism’s Affinity project. Ruth has worked for a community-based charity for over ten years, writing and delivering evidence-based workshops on autism, ADHD and mental health for parents/carers of autistic children and young people (CYP), autistic/ADHD CYP, and the professionals working with them. She advocates for participatory, creative approaches that centre the voices of marginalised populations, and has published on the experiences of autistic girls in school and of autistic school staff. Example online resources include a webinar for NDTi and an animation film with Donaldson’s Trust, which are both free to view. She is a Trustee of the John and Lorna Wing Foundation, supporting autism research. She sits on the editorial board of research website Information Autism, which provides impartial, scientifically accurate and accessible information on autism, and on interventions and support designed for autistic people. She is also chair of the Advisory board for Donaldson’s Trust, co-chair of the Advisory board for Play Included, and is a member of the Research and Innovation committee for Inspire Malta. Ruth has two children, one of whom is autistic, and is autistic herself.

Dr. Marwa Saleh started work as a resident of Phoniatrics in 1984 in Phoniatric unit, Ain Shams University, founded by Dr. Nasser Kotby. She is now a professor emeritus in this unit. Her master’s degree in Phoniatrics was obtained in 1987, and the dissertation was about delayed language development. She developed a great interest in linguistics and language development, especially phonology, and gave lectures in linguistics to post-graduate students for over 30 years. She obtained the doctoral degree in Phoniatrics in 1991, after receiving a scholarship and spending a year in University of Iowa, United States, under supervision of Dr. Ingo Titze. Her interest in acoustic analysis of voice and physiology of voice accordingly developed after working in Dr. Titze’s lab. Dr. Saleh is a co-founder of cochlear implant clinic in Ain Shams University hospitals in 1996. She is a co-author of 2 books: ‘Auditory Rehabilitation of Hearing-Impaired Adult Individuals Using Hearing Aids and Cochlear Implants’, and ‘Phonology-based Arabic Learning (PAL)’. She was the first in Egypt to apply Lidcombe program in treatment of stuttering since 2003. She currently resides in Minneapolis, MN, USA. All work with her colleagues in Ain Shams University, whether in weekly conferences, research work and supervision of dissertations is carried out through telecommunication.

Dr. Judit Gombás (ORCID: 0000-0002-0004-3575) is a full-time lecturer at Eötvös Loránd University Bárczi Gusztáv Faculty of Special Needs Education (Budapest, Hungary). Ms. Gombás was granted her Ph.D in 2017, her doctoral research investigated free time sporting habits of Hungarian adults with blindness or visual impairment. Ana Leko Krhen is an assistant professor at the Department of Speech and Language Therapy, Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Zagreb. She accomplished a master's degree and a PhD in the field of aphasiology. In recent years, her work has focused on the area of fluency disorders. As part of the undergraduate and graduate studies in speech and language pathology, she gives lectures for the courses Speech Fluency Disorders, Stuttering, and Differential Diagnosis of Speech Fluency Disorders. So far, she has actively participated in 6 scientific and 2 professional projects. She is the author and co-author of numerous papers presented at international and national congresses. She published her scientific articles in various journals. From 2018 to 2021 she was a member of the editorial board of the journal Logopedija. As a member of the project team ICT-AAC she received the annual "Ivan Filipović" award for the promotion of pedagogical theory and practice. She continuously educated herself to improve her teaching skills and participated in various trainings, the most notable of which is "Designing Coursework in the Nature and Treatment of Stuttering", for which she received a scholarship from the Stuttering Foundation. She is a staff member of the Speech Therapy Unit of the Teaching and Clinical Center of the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation.

Dr. Sangeetha Mahesh is currently working as Associate Professor and Head, Department of Clinical Services, AIISH. She has been actively serving the institute from past 22 years focusing on Clinical Training, Teaching, Clinical Services, and Public Education. She has a teaching experience of over 14 years and expertise in the area of Fluency Disorders, Child Language Disorders (Intellectual Disability, Hearing Impairment), Normal Speech-Language Development, Certification of Speech-Language Disability, Barrier Friendly Environment for Speech-Language Disabilities, Customer Satisfaction and Quality of life of Persons with Speech-Language Disabilities. She is involved in extensive research including 11 intramural projects, 3 extramural projects, 28 National publications and paper presentations in national and International platforms to her credits. She has taken initiative of implementation of Student Clinical Training Modules for the students of undergraduates and postgraduates of speech- language pathology and developed several Public Education Materials. She also has been an active member of several professional organizations.

Dr. Gregory J. Spray is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences at Auburn University. He is the Director of the Speech, Neurophysiology, and Attitude Perceptions Laboratory, where he aims to expand our understanding of developmental stuttering using behavioral, kinematic, acoustic, and neurophysiological measures. Dr. Spray received both his MA degree and PhD in Communicative Sciences and Disorders at Michigan State University where he also trained as a postdoctoral research associate in the Spartan Stuttering Laboratory. He has published research in the areas of stuttering, dyslexia, and bilingualism and has served as a reviewer for journals such as Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools (LSHSS), Journal of Communication Disorders (JCD), and Teaching and Learning in Communication Sciences and Disorders (TLCSD). Dr. Spray previously served two terms as President of the Michigan Speech-Language-Hearing Association and currently serves as Secretary of the Council of Speech-Language-Hearing Association Presidents (CSAP).
